First of all .. Antarctica
is not up .. it is down! For some reason, many people tend to get the Arctic
and the Antarctic mixed up. The Arctic is in the north, the Antarctic is in
the south. An other thing which gets mixed up on a regular basis is the wildlife. No .. there are no Polar Bears in Antarctica and there are no Penguins in the Arctic! So when you see the advertisements for Coca-Cola with Penguins and Polar Bears together you can be certain that it happens in a ZOO somewhere, not in the wild. To get to the field camp for this project we need
to travel to a place called Ross Island which is located in the Ross Sea
just off the coast of Antarctica. If you look at the globe or a map, you
will find the Ross Sea south of New Zealand, which is also our gateway to
the Antarctic continent. |
